Philosophy
Behavior Philosophy & Core Values
Guided by Empathy, Structure, and Support
My philosophy as a Behavior Technician is grounded in empathy, consistency, and respect. I believe all behavior is a form of communication, and understanding the "why" behind each action allows for meaningful support and growth.
My approach focuses on positive reinforcement, clear expectations, and collaboration with teachers, parents, and students to create a structured and encouraging environment. I value patience, teamwork, and evidence-based practices that help students build independence and confidence.
At the heart of my work is compassion—meeting every student where they are, celebrating progress, and helping them succeed both behaviorally and emotionally.
Verbal Communication
Building Connection Through Words
I use calm, clear, and positive communication to support students, staff, and families.
Builds Trust and Connection
Consistent, calm language helps students, parents, and staff feel respected and understood. When communication is positive, it reduces fear and defensiveness, promoting cooperation.
Strengthens Collaboration Across Teams
Clear, professional communication ensures everyone—teachers, aides, and families—understands goals and strategies. This reduces confusion and builds a unified support system for each student.
Promotes Emotional Regulation and Modelling
Students mirror adult tone and phrasing. Calm words teach calm behavior. The way staff communicates directly shapes the emotional climate of the classroom.
Data Presentation
Tracking Progress Through Data
I collect and analyse data to monitor student progress, identify trends, and guide effective behavior interventions. My data presentation demonstrates consistency, accuracy, and collaboration—transforming numbers into meaningful support for students.
Types of Data Collected
  • Frequency & duration data
  • ABC (Antecedent-Behavior-Consequence) observations
  • Interval recording
  • Replacement behavior tracking
These data types help track both decreases in target behaviors and increases in positive skills.
Data in Action
  • Used frequency data to adjust reinforcement schedule
  • Shared progress trends during IEP meetings
  • Applied visual data to modify intervention steps

Visual Communication
Using visuals to teach, support, and empower every learner
I use visual supports to promote understanding, independence, and positive behavior across all settings.
Visual Reinforcement Tools
Visual reinforcement tools that motivate students to display positive behaviors and earn rewards. By making contingencies clear and predictable, these tools support consistent communication of expectations and help students build independence in completing tasks.
Self-Regulation Supports
Visual supports that teach self-regulation by helping students request breaks appropriately, identify their emotions, and make choices using visual scales. These tools support emotional awareness and reduce frustration by giving students a clear way to communicate their needs.
These visual supports are used daily to promote structure, independence, and positive behavior. The images above include reinforcement boards, emotion-identification tools, first–then visuals, break cards, and visual schedules. Each tool is designed to reduce frustration, support communication, and help students understand expectations in a clear and accessible way.
Written Communication
This section highlights how I use written communication to support ethical practice, accountability, and collaborative decision-making in student support.
Spoken Sample: Leadership Through Documentation Practices

In this spoken sample, I explain how accurate and consistent documentation supports team communication, ethical decision-making, and student progress. As a Behavior Technician, written communication ensures that teachers, therapists, and families have clear information to guide student support.
Effective documentation helps teams identify patterns, evaluate interventions, and make data-driven decisions that promote positive outcomes. This process also reflects leadership in practice by promoting accountability, collaboration, and consistency across learning environments.
Growth and Goals
Continuing to Learn, Reflect, and Grow
My journey as a Behavior Technician has been built on continuous learning and reflection. Over time, I've strengthened my communication skills, improved data accuracy, and developed strong relationships with students and staff.
Now that I am a certified RBT, my goal is to keep growing through advanced training, leadership opportunities, and mentoring others in the field. Each day, I strive to bring empathy, structure, and consistency, because every small step forward creates lasting change for the students I support.
A Moment That Shaped Me
One experience that really motivated me was supporting a student who struggled with emotional regulation and would have frequent meltdowns when they couldn’t access something they wanted. Instead of focusing only on stopping the behavior, I focused on teaching the student a better way to communicate. I introduced visuals like a break card and a simple reinforcement system, and I stayed consistent with calm communication every time. Over time, I saw the student begin to request breaks appropriately and recover faster. Moments like that remind me why I care so much about this work. It motivates me to keep growing, learning, and becoming the best professional I can be for my students. In addition to my professional role, I also volunteer through free after-school tutoring for students from low-income families. Supporting students outside of my work environment reinforces my commitment to equity in education and continues to shape my growth as an advocate and future behavior professional.
